What is MNS?

The Indian Army’s BSc Nursing or MNS examination is one of the most competitive examinations for female aspirants interested in joining the armed forces as nurses.  It is a component of the Indian Army’s AFMS. The President of India appoints MNS Officers to either a Short Service Commission or a Permanent Commission. Candidates will be enrolled in a four-year BSc study at any nursing college under the MNS. The Directorate General of Medical Services in Army grant the aspirants admission to a four-year B Sc. Course under Armed Forces Medical Services. The selection of candidates in this course will be based solely on their NEET UG exam scores. Clearing the NEET UG exam is the foremost criteria to get enrolled in the MNS.

 

MNS Exam Process-

The MNS examination is taken online and is conducted only once a year. The candidate has to give an objective-oriented written test that is worth 150 points which lasts for 90 minutes.

After qualifying the written exam, the candidate is headed towards an interview for 100 marks which is then followed by the final step of the physical fitness test. The final decision will depend on the aggregate scores of these three stages.

MNS Exam Syllabus

For the MNS Exam the syllabus is based on the mandatory subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology aggregated with the general subjects namely General English and General Intelligence.

Physics Syllabus:  

Laws of Motion and Work, Power and Energy, Properties of Matter, Magnetic effects of electric current, Nuclear Physics, Optics, Dual Nature of Radiation and atomic physics, current electricity.

Chemistry Syllabus:

Atomic structure, alcohols and ethers, carbonyl compounds, Isomerism in organic compounds, Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, Chemical Equilibrium, and Chemical kinetics, etc.

Biology Syllabus:

Taxonomy, Cell and Molecular Biology, Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biochemistry, Plant physiology, Human physiology, Biodiversity, ecology and environment, Biotechnology and its applications.

General English Syllabus:

Synonyms/ Antonyms, Spellings, and Punctuation Spot the mistake, Idioms and Phrases, one-word substitution Passage comprehension, spotting misspelt words, filling in the blanks, and sentence shuffling in a Passage

General Intelligence Syllabus:

Current affairs, static GK, Number series, analysis, decision-making, problem-solving, non-verbal series, relationship concepts, arithmetical computations, space visualization, analytical functions, etc.

 

Indian Army BSc. Nursing common requirements and Eligibility Criteria-

  • Only female candidates are allowed to apply for this military exam. The candidates may be unmarried/divorcee/legally separated or widows without encumbrances.
  • The candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • They must have passed 10+2 or equivalent (12 Years of schooling) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology) and English on the first attempt from a Statutory / Recognized Board /University/ Examination Body.
  • The candidate must have scored at least 50% in their 10+2 and must have studied as a regular student.
  • Candidates appearing for their class 12 or equivalent exam during the current academic session may also apply provisionally.
  • The applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 24.
  • They must have graduated from a recognised board with a Class 12 that included Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as required subjects. Students in their final year of high school can also apply for this exam.
  • Candidates must be physically and mentally fit.

Medical criteria for MNS aspirants-

The minimum height required for the aspiring candidate for the Indian Army Nursing Services is 152 cm, however the candidates from Hill and Northeastern States will be accepted with a minimum height of 147 cm.
